Hi there,
I recently got a second hand HP Pavilion dv6-2147e (WG630EA). I got it for the Firewire port because I'm a musician and I still use FireWire.
I would like to upgrade the RAM but I'm having trouble finding out what the maximum RAM capacity is for this model and also what frequency in MHz .
Currently the RAM installed is x2 2GB 1067MHz DDR3 Micron 16JSF25664HZ-1G1F1, according to the Memory Information at startup.
I tried to install a Kingston KVR1333D3S9/8G Memoria RAM da 8 GB, 1333 MHz, DDR3, Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM, 204-pin, 1.5 V, but the system didn't allow it.
Was this because it cannot take an 8GB single bar or because the MHz was wrong?
I can't seem to find a manual for this particular model which was sold in Italy.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

You're very welcome.
The Crucial 1.35V memory definitely won't work.
Your notebook needs 1.5V memory, and that is the only memory voltage that will work.
Also, I don't think that all 12800 memory will downclock 2 speeds to 1066.
That is why 1333 MHz is recommended because it normally will downclock 1 speed to 1066 MHz.
It doesn't matter...as I wrote above, memory installation is a problem with all HP notebooks with the mobile intel series 5 chipsets, such as yours.
Just do a search on the forum...there are many posts from folks with dv6/7-2xxx, dv6-7-3xxx, business models 6550b, 8440p...all of them resolved by getting that G.Skill memory.
No doubt a few other brands will work, but no one has yet to report other brands' equivalent memory which works.
So, we keep going with the 'tried and true.'

Hi, @PHItaly :
Please read this discussion...You have to be extremely particular regarding what memory you install in any HP notebook with the Mobile Intel Series 5 chipset.
Another person from Italy just ordered this memory and we are waiting to see if it worked.
Here is the whole discussion so you can wait to see the results and then buy the above memory if it worked.

Thanks everyone for your answers.
I looked at the various threads, but they seem to be talking about other versions of HP laptops, so I'm not sure how much they apply. I wil wait and see if the other Italian user has any luck with the RAM he ordered.
In the meantime, I went ot the Crucial website which has a free system scan and then offers you the best RAM solution for your machine.
After the scan they suggeted:
- DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V •
- HP - Compaq Pavilion dv6 (Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 Processors) systems.
This seems wrong, as all the other information I got says 1.5V and 1066 MHz.
Is that right?
I also found my chipset: Intel HM55/PM55
Does this help at all.
Thanks again.

I cannot find any specs on your notebook from any HP source.
This is all I could find...
If you are looking at the service manual, it would only give a list of supported processors for the entire model series, not just your model.
