HP 15 Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My daughter dropped her Notebook

It boots to the hp screen for a few then

- - Stop Code : Unmountable Boot Volume - -

Hard Drive SMART Check : Passed

Hard Drive Short Check DST : Failed

Product ID : Lot33UA#ABA

Failure ID : MBSBJW-88R8K2-MFPX7G-60SB03 Hard Drive 1 - Primary HHD Bay*

She said I could have it or just throw it away.

I'm opting to keep it but have a few questions

I've read the HHD possibly needs to be re-seated

Might take some patience,if thats the case..OK

I can deal with that

If Not...I see one on the HP site for $130.00.

Here's the questions. If I do need a new HHD,does

it come with Windows 10...or do I have to buy that as well

...or...

This machine is actually still under warranty according to

the warranty check I did last night on the

HP Warranty check thing and  have an HP Authorized place

do it.

I hate to get rid of it just like that.

I still have a Pavillion with XP I use for Printing with an old

D4160 thats still pluggin along

Hard drive needs to be replaced not reseated. Are you in the US? You can get a replacement hard drive for more like $60 on amazon.com.  If Windows 10 is installed and activated you can download an install disk from Microsoft for free and use it to reinstall. Replacing the hard drive is a bit of a challenge but we can walk you through. Post back if interested.

In the US..yes.

Windows 10 is installed and activated.

Is the Microsoft windows number on the Hard Drive when I take it out..?

I've downloaded the PDF file

HP 15 Notebook PC
Maintenance and Service Guide from the HP site.

As soon as I get the HHD I'll shoot you a Reply Post.

Might be a week or so...kinda busy at work

You don't need a number. The hard drive comes completely blank and you have to get Windows onto it. That's where we can help.

Hi

according to the

HP Notebook - 15-f233wm (ENERGY STAR)

Product Specifications

it takes a

500 GB 5400 rpm SATA

I see alot listed..a WHOLE lot

I searched for

HP Notebook - 15-f233wm Hard Drve - 0 results

500 GB 5400 rpm SATA - 28 pages worth

but no mention of HP-15-f233wm

Any ideas..?

I don't want to get the wrong one.

You can't get the wrong one. You need a 2.5 inch wide 9.5 or 7mm thick SATA laptop hard drive. They are generic, interchangeable, universal. That is why you are not finding a hard drive specifically for your model because there is no such a thing.

You are not limited to a 500 gig 5400 rpm drive, but I would not go smaller. I am not sure you have yet told me where you live (country)?

Hi,

Thanks for the Info.

That'll make it easier for sure.

I live in the

USA...New Jersey

Would you recommend a brand...?

I know different people have their favorite

Seagate, Hitachi, Samsung, Western Digital all good.

Here is a good example...this drive is larger capacity and faster than the one you have and is a good price here:
