my model number is 14-cf2733wmn (it was on the bottom of my laptop) and cmd says i can do 16 but other ram checking websites like memorystock says 8gb im confused and i need to upgrade fast, please and thank you. (oh yea also my motherboard is a hp 8546 with one ram slot)

The command line you ran to check the max memory reporting 16 GB means that you can only install an 8 GB memory chip in the single slot.
If the report returned 32 GB, then a 16 GB memory chip probably would have worked.
The program is picking up the circuitry for the missing memory slot.
Here's proof that a 16 GB memory chip will not work:

ahh thank you, that sucks but is the link you recommended to amazon (in the other post) the correct ram for my system? (i desperately need to upgrade) thank you for helping me. (oh yea also if the link isnt it could u please find me one if it isnt any trouble?)
