pavilion dv6 A3F49AAR
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Good morning,

My laptop is hp pavilion dv6, intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230

Model 2230BNHMW

In fact, I want to know the original version of windows that was installed in this laptop when I have bought it.

Is this possible? Since I have upgraded to windows 10 and want to downgrade back to windows 7.

THanks in advance!

Dina

Hi Dina,

Sorry took a bit of time to get back to you.

You are going to need to download a small program on a different computer so that you can get the windows 7 OEM iso for your product key.

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-iso-download-tool

Download program and run. Choose Windows 7 in the right upper corner and then choose the correct edition. Windows 7 home premium OEM. Now with the iso either create a bootable DVD disk or a bootable USB drive (you can use program such as Rufus to create bootable pendrive from iso)

If this does not work, you can either order recovery disks from HP or other provider or maybe get a copy (OEM disk) online on ebay for very cheap.

Let me know,

David

Hi Dina,

Your PC came with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). Do you have the original recovery disks or is there a recovery partition on hard drive. If yes, you can use these to go back to Windows 7.

Hope it helps,

David

Hi,

Thanks for your reply!

Unfortunately the hard disk does not work anymore and I have replaced it. So I am trying to install new Windows, I have Windows 7 ultimate on a bootable flash usb, I think it will not work?!

I must install again Windows 7 Home Premium and download its drivers no?

THanks in advance.

Hi,

It will work to install windows 7 ultimate. However you will need the product key to activate it. The drivers for home premium will work with ultimate (they are the same).

Do you have product key for Home Premium (sticker on PC)?

The problem is only the activation. You can install any OS you want. Make sure to install 64-bit version.

The drivers for your PC are here:

Hope it helps,

David

Hi,

In fact I have the product key (found on the sticker) but the problem is that when I put it while installing I am getting the following  message " product key does not match current Windows SKU".

I found on the stickers that the laptop is refurbished, I do not know if because of this!

THank youu

Yes, the product key (from sticker) will only work with Windows Home Premium installation. If you want to install Ultimate you will need to get a product key for ultimate.

On the sticker it will tell you what version of windows it is for

Hope it helps,

David

Oh yes you are right!

I am trying to download Windows 7 home Premium from the microsoft website, when verifying the product key I got "error: the product key you entered appears to be software pre-installed by the device manufacturer".

In fact I do not have the product key for the ultimate also, what could I do in this case?

Really thanks for your help!

OK Dina,

You have pendrive with windows ultimate. On a different computer open the pendrive and go to folder sources. In this folder you need to delete the file ei.cfg .

Once you have deleted that file the pendrive will now give you the option at installation what version of Windows you want to install , choose Home Premium and try using the product key on sticker.

Let me know,

David

Okay I will do this and come back to you with the results.

Thanks so much!

Good morning,

I have deleted the ei.cfg file and started the installation process, I got directly after the first step (choosing the laguage and keyboard language) the window the demands the product key! I put the product key and got "The product key you entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key"

What shall I do now?!

Thanks in advance.

Dina
