I can't see how your mother would be upset about that.
If you bought memory you would have to buy a pair of identical guaranteed compatible modules.
That costs $$ and do you really want to open up your laptop and risk breaking it?
That would make your mother upset with a very good reason.
Did you register your laptop online with HP for warranty?
