It sounds like your HP Spectre x360’s touchpad might have a hardware issue, but let’s try some troubleshooting steps to confirm whether it’s a sensor problem or a software-related issue.

Step 1: Check Touchpad Settings

  1. Open Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  2. Ensure the touchpad is enabled and sensitivity settings are correctly configured.
  3. Try adjusting the touchpad sensitivity to see if responsiveness improves.

Step 2: Update Touchpad Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager (Press Windows + X, then select Device Manager).
  2. Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right-click on the Touchpad driver and select Update Driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Step 3: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the laptop and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Hold down the Power button for 15 seconds.
  3. Restart the laptop and test the touchpad again.

Step 4: Run HP Diagnostics

  1. Visit the HP Support page and download the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool.
  2. Run a Touchpad Test to check for hardware issues.

Step 5: Check for Physical Damage

  1. Inspect the touchpad for any visible cracks or irregularities.
  2. If the touchpad feels unresponsive or uneven, it may require professional repair.
