hello i wanted to know what is the maximum speed of nvme that i can get out of hp 250 g7 laptop? i have samsung 970 evo 500gb that im thinking to put inside this laptop and i wanted to know if i will reach the maximum speed of the this nvme drive by putting it inside the laptop? and also i would like some information about the pcie generaion of this laptop. right now i have WD SN720 256GB and last time i ran speed test i think it wasnt preforming so well, i would like some help. thanks.
also i wanted to ask this pc came with SK hynix BC501 HFM256GDJTNG-8310A it was noticiably slower then the WD nvme that it has now, i wanted to ask does anyone know if thhe BC501 has Dram chip?

Yes, from what you posted you are getting about exactly 1/2 of the max read speed of 3,400 MBPS the SN720 provides and a little bit better than half on the max write speed of 2,800 MBPS.

So, if you install a NVMe SSD with lesser specs than the SN720, it is only going to run slower--again, about 1/2 of that the maximum advertised read/write speeds are, unless the NVMe SSD specs are PCIe 3.0 x 2. Then you should get all 1,700 MBPS out of it.
In other words, a PCIe 3 x 4 NVMe SSD with a max write speed of 1700 MBPS is only going to run at around 850 MBPS.
That would still be a bit faster than a M.2 SATA SSD could run at though.

Hi:
Your notebook must have an Intel core processor in order to support an NVMe SSD.
The PCIe generation of the M.2 slot is 3.0.
I believe that based on other posts I have found on the forum, that unfortunately the PCIe slot is x2 which means that a PCIe 3x4 SSD will only run at about 1/2 of its maximum advertised read/write speeds.

Thanks for the reply i tested my 256 gb wd ssd and i get speed of 1700/1500 is that like the maximum? I have few more ssds here so maybe i can take out this ssd and put one that matchs this speed, because i know the wd is capable of more speed but i have some ssds that are rated for around 1700mb too so maybe its worth to take out the wd and maybe sell it or something

yes paul i think you are right. i think i maxed my speed of my pcie gen 3.0x2 with this ssd (i have reached the limit i think) so even if i will install my samsung evo i will get same speeds i belive. so its not worth the time..
