what ram does my laptop uses?

Then, the maximum RAM i can add in is either 2x 4-GB ram or 1x 8-GB ram, correct?

It depends on what processor your notebook has.

If it has a Pentium or Celeron processor, it only has one memory slot and the max the slot can take is 1 x 8 GB.

If it has an Intel core processor, it has two memory slots and the max the slot can take is 2 x 8 GB of memory.
