@A_OSA

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums.

I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY Notebook 15-as001nx and the battery charges till 70% and then stops. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

Did any software changes or updates happen on your laptop after which the battery stopped charging at 70%?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

NOTE: You may skip any steps that have been performed by you already.

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

Now let us uninstall the battery drivers and reinstall them. The following steps will help:

  • Open the device manager.
  • Expand "Batteries". Right click on the ACPI battery drivers and select uninstall. If there are multiple entries of the ACPI battery drivers then uninstall them all.
  • Close the device manager.Restart the laptop.
  • The Windows operating system will reinstall the battery drivers while restarting.

It is a good idea to download and run a BIOS update for your laptop via this link. The charger must be connected until the BIOS update is complete to avoid any power interruptions due to battery draining out.

Post a successful BIOS update,  you may check if the battery charges fully. If not then please perform the steps as described in detail in this HP document. These steps help in testing and calibrating the battery.
NOTE: Please skip the steps mentioned in "Test and calibrate the battery using HP Support Assistant".

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted.

Good luck! 🙂

Hello i have the same problem here. My laptop hp ac122nv charging until 70 or 90 percent some times and then stops. It says that it is plugged in but not charging. Besides that it powers of when the battery comes to 30%. Battery's check result is ok. I tried the remove of battery mentioned before and uninstaling the microsoft acpi but nothing worked. I also updated bios without any result. Is there anything i can do?

I have the exact same problem ,except my battery stops charging at 50%.The battery indicator shows charging and plugged In but  the percentage is stuck at 50%.When I completely discharge the battery and try to charge it , it charges upto to 50% and gets stuck.

I tried everything from Bios update,to draining the battery completely to turning off the power switch and holding for 30 secs ,disabling the drivers etc....

Nothing seems to work...

has anybody got solution to this problem.my laptop is  just 14 months old and the problem started 2 days back.

Since its a inbuilt battery I have not been able to take the battery out to reset...

The HP diagnostic tool also shows the ac adapter and batttery to be working fine...I just dont understand what is wrong.

As I know it is common problem, only update your BIOS

In America, anyone can become president. That’s the problem

I did update the bios successfully, but the problem still remains. I have run out of ideas .I am planning to go to the service centre tommorow to get this checked out.

Following your steps made my laptop stop charging at 1%. Earlier it was 80%. It shows 1% battery at 15 volts for a 16.6 volt battery. **bleep**?

@Ankit52

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Did you try another charger?
  • Does the notebook shut down immediately (right after you unplug the charger)?
  • Do you get any error message on your notebook (Such as Plugged in, not charging, etc.)?
  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Keep me posted for further assistance.

As you replied, I hope you will understand my problem

Here is the problem:

My laptop battery was performing good for 2 years. Suddenly one day it stopped charging at 70%. After this % level it would charge intermittently (~10 seconds charging then another ~10 seconds on battery power, while the ac charger is plugged in all the time). This repetition would continue to ~80%, then "plugged in not charging"

I used this way for 20 more days. Meanwhile that **bleep** 70% point had dropped to 55% and my laptop would also die at 18-20% battery.

So I removed the battery, opened it and found 4 18650 LG Cells rated 2750 mah. I did a capacity test and found their capacity as about 1300 mah, 1900 mah, 2200 mah and 2300 mah respectively. That cleared all my doubt.

Then I replaced the cells with new Samsung 2600 mah Cells and repacked the battery.

The real problem starts now:

The battery charged well to 100% for 2 cycles and worked fine. After that that **bleep** of "intermittent and slow charging" again started at 75%. (But It discharged very well to 5%)

To solve that **bleep** 70-75% problem I did following things:

1. Uninstalled and reinstalled battery and ac adapter drivers.

2. Updated the BIOS

3. Reset the Bios from bios setting

4. Reset the BIOS by removing CMOS Battery

Nothing has worked

My conclusions:

1. The EEPROM Chip in the Battery BMS is reporting a preset number of cycles say 600 to bios irrespective of battery health so the user will be forced to buy a new battery from company. (Business Policy)

2. The previous cells were damaged intensionally by BMS of BIOS with Overcharging or something on reaching 600 cycles. (Because cell chemistry degradation is a gradual process and it can't happen all of a sudden which happened in my case)

Thank you!

@Ankit52

Thank you for posting back.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

BIOS default: ( Do no skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel its repeating )

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer. If the issue persists, follow the next steps.

Run hardware diagnostics test on battery and Charger:

Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.
  4. The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.
  5. To run both tests simultaneously, in the Component Tests menu, click Power Source, and then click Run once. Each component can also be tested individually.

AC Adapter Test:

The AC Adapter test provides an interactive test to determine if the AC power adapter is functioning properly. A good battery is required for this test. Before running the AC Adapter Test, HP recommends verifying that your computer can receive power by connecting a known working AC adapter.

Follow these steps to perform the AC Adapter Test.

  • In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click an AC Adapter Test.
  • Click Run once.
  • The AC Adapter Test begins.
  • When the test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen.

Battery Test:

Follow these steps to perform the Battery Test:

  1. In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click Battery.
  2. Click Run once. The Battery Test begins.
  3. When the battery test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen. For additional battery information, click Battery Details.

If the test passes, continue with these steps:

1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.

2. Expand batteries.

3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.

4. Shut down the computer.

5. Disconnect the charger.

6. Remove the battery.

7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.

8. Insert the battery only.

9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
