Agreed. It's pretty sad that it has gone several months now with zero support from either party.
I will say that the windows update driver (655.1), oddly enough, is pretty stable for me. Performance-wise, I think the desktop drivers actually run 3D graphics better, but the cold boot lock-up/reboot kind of botches the experience. The problem is still there with a forced install from the latest 18.1.1 driver package just released from AMD. I was a little surprised when running the 18.1.1 installer... it actually recognized the Ryzen 5/Vega 8 APU this time. I got excited until it claimed the 655.1 display driver was the latest.

I did a clean install of windows 10 Pro and used the drivers on the x360 HP page (although HP seem to have broken the support site yesterday and today) to rebuild, plus the AMD chipset drivers mentioned in this thread.
I tried the .1 and .2 driver and am using the .2 currently.
I'm able to run a game like Subnautica fine without any crashes, but if you think you've got a stable laptop here's two things to try:
* when on battery only, plug in an external usb drive . This always gives me an immediate hard reset - I thought I'd hit the power button at first. I used the left hand side USB port with one of the main brand external drives.
* when on battery or mains, copy a multi-GB file on to usb storage media. This can be a USB stick or USB hard drive. It gives me a lock up, mouse and caps lock unresponsive.
* as a stress test, try any GPU mining software (minergate etc) - you don't have to mine for any length of time as you'll know within the first few seconds as you'll get a hard reset the moment it touches the GPU, which sounds like a driver problem. Elsewhere the desktop Vega users are saying this is fixed in the December onwards drivers, but of course HP's current one for this laptop predates this.
Unrelated: does anyone know the HP part number for the 2.5" drive caddy and (seperate) special internal connector? It's not included in the laptop. HP support told me to go check their parts site but it showed no results at all for this laptop.
Also check on the HP website when your warranty is recorded as having started from - you might see it as a number of months before your purchase and you need to raise a query to get it fixed.
Since I got it in the UK and we have a good return rules I confess I'm having dark thoughts of just returning it for something dependable.

So I typed up a big long reply with lots of information and it said it posted, but now it has disappeared... So I will summarize again what I had typed: 22.19.655.1 from the HP website seems to be different than 22.19.655.1 from windows update, because I get crashes with the HP supplied driver, but not the windows update driver. I haven't experienced the crashes related to the usb flash drives you describe. Don't have a regular external hard drive to test with at the moment. I might try the mining program test at some point.
I found in the service manual the following note about the hard drive: The hard drive bracket is available using spare part number 924350-001. The hard drive cable is available using spare part number 924326-001.

I've also found that other manufacturers have released laptops with the same APU, and so far each one I've looked at also supplies the 17.7 driver package from their driver support pages. The display drivers show version numbers along the lines of 22.19.655.xxx. So, it would appear that the driver holdup is coming from AMD. Maybe they will supply some new Raven Ridge APU drivers with the upcoming desktop APU release.

Interesting find. I downloaded 23.20.815.0 from the catalog and extracted it. Did some poking around in the inf files to find that they are indeed mobile Raven Ridge drivers, with packages for hp, dell, acer, lenovo, as well as generic AMD. I didn't see our particular hardware ID in there, which explains why it doesn't install automatically from windows update, but I installed it anyways through device manager. There is a radeon settings installer inside the "B322398" folder, "ccc2_install.exe". It installs silently, but I checked the radeon settings panel and it shows the correct version, although it still says the overall Radeon Software Version is 17.7. It did add "Chill" to the gaming settings, which I thought was an Adrenalin only feature... Anyways, no crash yet, despite putting it through some paces already... I'll keep testing this version. Game performance did improve considerably, like I had experienced with the desktop drivers, with what I've tested so far.

The chipset drivers I think might show their version number, 17.40, under "Driver Packaging Version" on the Software tab or Radeon Settings:
The Radeon Settings Version, also shown on that screen, looks to follow a date format: 12-27-2017 = 2017.1227.xxx.xxxx.
The Radeon Software Version 17.7, is shown on the Overview tab of Radeon Settings:
Something else to note, is that my system doesn't like switching between the 655.1 driver and this latest windows update driver, giving me a black screen and forcing a reboot. I got a bugcheck 0x000000ea which basically said the driver gets stuck in an endless loop. So the key is to uninstall to the basic display driver before switching. Also, disable the automatic driver updates in windows 10, or it will randomly try to revert you to the 655.1 driver, causing a black screen lockup... like I just experienced typing this, lol.
It didn't seem to matter which .inf file I chose, it still shows the same list. I think it automatically loads every .inf in the folder. When it loads, it shows 2 compatible drivers with the same name: "AMD Radeon(TM) Vega 8 Graphics". I believe these to be coming from the C0322487.inf file, which is the generic AMD version, and C0322484.inf, which is a Dell version, as they both contain info for PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_15DD&REV_C4 which is listed as a compatible id for our hardware. It looks like they both load the same driver.

Here's what I did a new clean install fixed most of my issues. Heres a tip go to Acer and down load their mobity ryzen drivers under the Swift 3 THey are a month newer than HP's and actually do improve performance a bit.
