I'm having the same issue. HP-ENVY 15-0010ca. I hadn't used it for high perf applications for a few days, and had a system update yesterday and today it is running super slow with a lot of fan noise and I'm getting this message in the performance control. I saw that there was a firmware update and a couple of driver updates, but adding those did not fix the issue.

 

My computer is basically unusable at this point, what's going on HP?

HP Support wasn't able to fix the issue for me, and they refused to escalate the problem. I feel like this is planned obsolescence and they will never fix that issue. Personally I'm done with HP.

I really hope that you talked with a non-resolutive technician who doesn't carry his job out very well (it is very common), and HP is on the way of solving it... 🙏🏼

I found a 3rd party solution by user /u/tbvr on Reddit. Look for a recent post (11 days ago) in /r/Hewlett_Packard "To ENVY 15 owners: I suggest you to avoid updates for a while!" by /u/____N-/

Hello HP Team,

 

Could you provide a date for when you expect to resolve the mentioned issue for all versions of HP ENVY laptops using the HP Command Center to manage processor power?

 

The problem is that it does not allow changing the processor power options and simply displays this uninformative and frustrating message: "HP discovered that a required component needs to be updated by our technology supplier. Until this update is deployed, this control function will be inaccessible. However, this issue will not affect other aspects of the ENVY 15."
