My Synaptic touch pad pointer is all over the place opening and closing sites I am on or not on. It is erractic to say the least. I have up-dated all drivers and software available. Right now as I am typing the pointer leaves does whatever it wants to do. Tried the freeze sofware doesn't work. Can I uninstall Synaptic and installanother touch pad driver? I have spent weeks trying to resolve this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey thanks again for getting back to me. My model is HP 15 TS notebook, the number is G9D68UA#ABA. I did try up-dating some of the drivers already but that was before I figured out it was the touch screen and not the touch pad that was creating the problem. I really appreciate you helping out here.

Hey there @Irisheyes3!
Welcome to HP forums!
I understand that the touchpad is erratic while using the laptop.
Please try few steps mentioned below.
Note: Connect an external mouse before you perform the following steps.
Go into control panel open programs and features and remove all software related to the touchpad including Synaptics applications.
Go into device manager located in the control panel and double click on the mouse and pointing devices. In the devices listed under that category right click on your touchpad device and select Uninstall and make sure to check the box that says Uninstall drivers.
Go back into device manager and find the touchpad device again and right click it. Select update drivers and update automatically. Try the touchpad again and see if it's working correctly now.

Please let me know the outcome.
Have a great day!

Thank you for responding. I did connect a mouse, didn't resolve the issue. The only thing left to do was to disable my touch screen. This resolved the erractic pointer issue! I miss the touch screen but I have my sanity back!!!!!! lol

Hi,
my HP device number is
XM716EA#UUW
I am still running Windows 7. I have not been able to use my Synaptics touchpad for years. It occasionally came on, don´t know why, but it disappeared again. System information says the hardware is OK. The lamp is not on, which surprisingly means the pad should be on? Cannot switch it off, i.e get the lamp lighting. Do I need a new driver?
Grateful for help.
