HP Beats 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

All videos, streaming or created, are unable to be watched, because they are zoomed in so far you cannot tell what you are watching.  Started about 48hrs ago, updated drivers, installed Win 10 latest version, checked every setting I know or can find but nothing works.  The thumbnails look correct, but when the video plays it's extremely zoomed in.  I have checked for similar issues, and it seems to be the same across the board as others have had.  But I don't see anything that has worked, and I have tried most of the proposed solutions.  I do not run IE, or Edge, I prefer and will remain on Chrome.  So any solutions should address a Chrome fix.  I have done everything in my power to resolve this issue, but nothing works.  Please help me, I don't want to have to buy a new laptop just to watch videos.

@Dave002

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an HP Beats 15 series laptop. I read that all videos, streaming or created, are unable to be watched because they are zoomed in. This makes the viewing difficult.

I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

To assist you better, I would like to know the following information:

  • What is the exact laptop model no? This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • Did any software changes or updates happen on the laptop before this issue started?
  • Does the issue persists while watching online and offline videos?
  • I understand that you would like to Use the Chrome browser. But just for the issue isolation purpose did you attempt to check with a different browser?
If the videos play fine using a different browser then we could uninstall and reinstall the Chrome browser.

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Let us perform a Microsoft System Restore to rollback the laptop to an earlier date when everything worked fine. This will not delete your data.

Post a successful Microsoft System Restore you may test the performance. If the videos still zoom in then please continue with the following steps:

  • Go to Control panel - Power options
  • Now click on the "Change plan settings" next to the selected power plan.
  • Click on "Change advanced power settings".
  • Now, expand the "Graphics settings".
  • Make sure the "Maximum performance" is selected on both battery & plugged in options.
  • Scroll down and expand the "Multimedia settings" and select "Maximum performance" for both battery and plugged in options for video playback.
  • Apply the settings, restart your notebook and then check the performance.
  • I would also recommend you to check the other settings under the advanced power options settings if the issue still persists.

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Feel free to keep me posted.

Good luck! 🙂

@MKazi

I forgot to mention, that I did try other broswers with the same issue, and I have not followed the advanced setting part yet, but I did uninstall/reinstall chrome and parts of Adobe.  I will keep these tips handy if it happens again.  Thanks again.

You might notice that the videos play fine as long as the laptop is not plugged in.  It works on battery mode.  It's the strangest thing!  How do we fix this?  I have tried the steps mentioned, which do not exactly follow the Windows 10 menus.  "Maximized" is not an option under MultiMedia Settings.

Thank you for being a part of HP Forums.

It'll be an honor to guide you through the steps needed to fix your concern or address your query 😉

As I understand the extremely zoomed in videos on both created and streaming,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Have you followed all the steps advised by the original tech? (Click here to access it)
  • When was the last time it worked without these issues?
    • Have you attempted a system restore?
  • While player are you using? Did you check with an alternate media player?
    • My personal favorite is the VLC media player (Free and easy to use), I suggest you check if it works on it: Click here to download (3rd party website - not suggested by HP, but me - The Riddle_Decipher personally)

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

Try to disable the hardware acceleration via Settings > Advance settings > System > Un-check the box  "Use hardware acceleration".

Keep me posted,

For I (Or a trusted colleague) shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,

And your device is up and running again, if you don't get back to us 😉

that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Okay so I have had the same problem for about a month now and tried everything I could, and found no solutions. The post above actually got me to the solution, despite being wrong. The problem for me only existed when plugged in. On battery it was fine. I found that the problem was that when plugged in my video processor would activate hardware acceleration and that would screw everything up for some reason. There are a million threads online on how to turn off hardware acceleration in Windows 10 and they are all useless, referencing options and pathways that don't exist. The comment above actually tells us to turn on Maximum Performance (which I believe is hardware acceleration) to solve this problem. That is wrong. Do the opposite of that, it solved my problem. Set it to Maximize Battery Life while plugged in.

Thank you for responding Chubar

I cant find where to turn off Maximum performance  Can you share your steps please

Follow the instructions at the bottom of Mkazi's post. I changed the ATI Graphics Power Settings, but I bet the Multimedia Settings would have done the same thing (see below). Bottom line is Mkazi's recommendation was completely wrong for my problem, but doing the opposite of what was recommended fixed my problem. I believe there is something wrong with the software that causes hardware acceleration on the video card to ruin everything. They do not make it easy to turn it off any more. Whatever benefit it provides is grossly exceeded by it being completely impossible to see the video.
