I posted this in other HP forum strings, so sorry if you've seen it before ...
This problem has also popped up on Intel's forums, unfortuntately, with no definitive solution. The most helpful I found was this forum string

It seems that HP suggested that its customer change the TdrDelay value in the registry either to 8 or increase by 8 (I can't figure out what's what)
Then, Intel tech support provides a link to a site that lists 10 things you can do to fix this error. The web site looks like it's not written by a native English speaker and describes te TdrDelay fix, but I'm wary about fussing with the Registry. Here's the link,
I've also seen Intel customers who claim that installing the beta version of the Intel driver fixed the problem, but from where I sit, beta could cause other problems. Anyway, if you want to try that, here's a link to Intel's beta version drivers released on Nov 20
The Intel drivers, however, are generally generic. When you run Intel's driver updater tool, it will identify the HP drivers as having been modified by HP, so I don't know what impact replacing the HP-modified Intel driver with a generic will have.
BTW, I recently got a sales pitch from HP wanting me to extend my warranty coverage. Hah! As evidenced by all the people having this same problem, they can't diagnose or fix their new machines. When I first got the machine, I had issues and spent beaucoups hours being passed between HP and Microsoft and within HP support departments. The experience was terrible. Now, the only support I get from them is SPAM asking me if the problem has been solved. Needless to say, I won't be taking them up on their offer of extended support/warranty.

Thanks for taking the time to post the above....I will go and have a look at the links...I never take out warranties...if I had taken one out for everything I have bought over the years I'd be broke!...I'd rather keep the money in my pocket and go buy a new one of whatever when it dies! 🙂

I have also tried everything but the " te TdrDelay fix" and still experience the issue with the driver.
As my warranty is nearing it's expiration date, I thought I would give HP Technical support a final try to resolve this driver issue.
This Tech Rep had a different response to why the problem occurred, at least with my Envy laptop, -
"Problem occurs because ALL UPDATES were being installed"
My request for more details/explanation was " not offered".
I asked that they request a post be made to this forum of what they say is the solution, will see if it will be documented.
The Tech Rep then made the following changes to my system that
"supposedly will only install the compatible updates"
I will have to keep checking to see if the Windows Updates released are actually installed.
They then made the following changes to my computer. I attempted to identify most of them if this 'fix' does not solve the problem.
The Tech 'installed' (reinstalled?) the Bios to F.42 that was listed under Windows 8.1, not Windows 10
From the Device Manager/Display Adapters/Update Driver Software
installing 'latest' Version: 10.18.15.4248 8/4/2015 from
Version 10.18.15.4256 7/17/2015.
The automatic updates in the HP Support Assistant - Next Scheduled
was changed to 'Never'
Under SERVICES (Local)
Windows installer was changed to 'MANUAL'
Windows Update was changed to 'Disabled'
I am still in test mode with these changes and make no guarantee that this Tech Rep's solutions are any better than those previously provided. I just thought I would pass it along as another of their comments and 'solution' to our problem.
I will do a follow up post if it does not solve the problem and also a later one if I no longer experience any further problems.

Frustration continues. The suggestions offered by both HP and Intel seem to be stalls. I also have tried various things without success. One seemed to work only to have the problem pop up during a view of Google streets. It does recover on most instances but sometimes a reload of the web site is required to fix. It seems to lock and won’t do anything.
I thought it was just a few of the HP products but based on the posts here it is wide spread and not limited to any version of windows 10. Some have received help from HP with them getting into the PC to do a fix. To me this is extremely dangerous. Who knows what they are doing or modifying. Based on the support responses i would not allow them to access any machine i own. They offer things that would seem to be shot gunning, blast away and hope it works. As for modifying the BIOS , I was unaware the upgrade to Windows 10 modified any machine BIOS. If it does and the computer company’s are ignoring this and it is causing the problem then shame on them.
Anyway I will try the recent suggestions and see where it leads.
If anyone does have success please do a post with methid used.

I have tried the TdrDelay fix, that did not work -
And, thanks to the gentleman who provided a summary of his converation with HP rep -
I am resolved to there not being a fix until the tech giants provide one -
It's distressing for me, I am not tech savvy, so when BIOS clocks, and other aspects of the computer's background intelligence start getting mentioned, it is safe for me to say that this is something that no ordinary consumer should need to be resolving on their own -
I will continue to reference this forum for any future notices, hopeful for a resolution -
Word of mouth, travels far - so if that is the path HP and/or Intel want to go down, then so be it -

Ok new issue popped up after trying a few things. Received error "video Scheduler internal error"
Looking at the web for any information it seems to be another Intel problem. Not sure if this is totally related to the win 10 upgrade but it never happened before the upgrade.
It seems both HP and Intel have big issues with the Win 10 upgrade and should be working with Microsoft to resolve. The issues in this forum are not all related to HP but seem to be related to Intel. Unfortunately Intel won’t move.:smileymad:

Follow up to the changes made by HP Tech Rep to my system.
Another solution that DOES NOT WORK.
Was worth the shot.
I was willing to let them alter my system, even if it means I have to do
a full image recovery back to the factory install and reinstall Windows 10
again, to see they really had a solution.
I missed a phone call follow up from HP Tech Rep today.
They LM that they will call back. Will update if any change.
If I had to guess and that is all it is, a guess, as I have nothing but conjecture to base it on, so don't hold me to my supposition
just putting it out there for discussion.
I think the after reading the recent comments from Microsoft signal that
my system, which was originally designed for Windows 8.1, that the
problem could be hardware issue and not software.
That with this most recent upgrade to Windows 10, 1511, the Intel 4600
chip may actually have a design issue with the "1511" and not just a driver
issue, especially as so many different systems with the 4600 chip are
reporting an issue after this Windows 10 upgrade

From what I've read on the Intel forums, the beta version update of the 4600 drivers fixes the problem on non-HP machines, but I've not seen anything that solves it on HP machines

All good stuff...
Can't help feeling gloomy as there are many many people seemingly affected by this and there does not appear to be any resolution any time soon.
I guess, if I want to regain the performance of the 4600 for gaming purposes - I should just recover the Windows 8.x that my HP lapop came with...

Thanks for the web site. I'll try some of the suggestions. Like the author's experience, I've found no help at HP's tech support and navigating who to call is a ordeal in and of itself.
This is why people buy Apple products. With Windows, there are at least three big companies fighting with and potentially conflicting with and pointing fingers at each other -- Microsoft, HP and Intel (not to mention NVIDIA or other hardware/software makers). Testing products for incompatibilities seems to be something they do not do. They've not figured out how to work together.
For example, the December update of Flash player was incompatible with many other programs (like Skype) as Microsoft and Adobe failed to test the security release. They had to re-release the fix in early January. In the meantime, users had to repeatedly uninstall the December fix which Windows kept re-installing. The solution was to "trick" Windows 10 into believing that it had installed the December fix using the troubleshooter tool, below:
