Here is the solution to resolve PCI Express Root Complex driver Issue Click here to view the instructions!

I actually received a pro-active call from the HP Support Tech.

They called me, describing the problem that we have had with

the INTEL HD 4600.

Their 'new solution' at least does not require serious modifications.

Again I have asked them to document this by posting to this forum.

The 'supposed fix' is as follows

             Right click on Start icon

             Click on Control Panel

Select    View  by  Large Icons (or small icons - just not Category)

             Click on 'Internet Options'

             Click on tab 'Advanced'

             Under Acellerated Graphics

Put check mark in box next to  "Use software rendering instead

                                                                                           of GPU rendering"

You can also get to this same option through Internet Explorer

       Opening Internet Explorer

       Under Tools, select Internet Options

Then following the same instructions as above putting check mark

The additional comment was made if you are using a browser other

than Internet Explorer, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the browser.

I am going to test it first without uninstalling Firefox and see if this really does solve the problem.

Will follow up with results, good or bad

Reading the various links it now seems like Microsoft  and Intel are clueless on the problems being caused by the lack of testing they failed to do. The cost must be high if nothing is being done. One would think one of the company's would publicly come out with information on the problems but as is the standard today, ignore it and it will go away.

I tried that solution (changing from CPU rendering to software rendering), early in this process.  Maybe it will work for you, but it did not work for me.

You can change the settings on your browser, by

1.  Click on Tools, Internet Options, Advanced

2,  Then select the Use Software Rendering instead of CPU rendering

3.  Then restart your PC

Some people reported that this worked, but for me it did not.

So has anyone applied the TdrDelay recommended fix, and the Internet options Acellerated Graphics: "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" at the same time with any result?

And since this forum, and without a fix [patch], in frustration has anyone just opted to recover there original Windows OS??

Best -

Alan, appreciate the time you took to tell us about the HP "solution"  Sure wish I could say it worked but it did not for me.  What a circus!

I also tried Alan' post with no success. Also contacted Hp aBOUT posting a real working solution. The rep said they were working on it but would not post here. The circle continues

Maybe the "solution" is that those of us who have continuing unresolved problems with this post a review of our new HP machines on Amazon and Office Depot and elsewhere where HP products are sold to alert potential buyers that these high end machines with an Intel 4600 graphics driver are incompatible with Windows 10 and that Microsoft, Intel and HP are uninterested in fixing the problem.

Here's what I posted on Amazon

WARNING to POTENTIAL BUYERS!

I purchased an Envy 17" laptop with integrated Intel graphics last March, as have many others. The Intel graphics drivers provided by HP are incompatible with the latest version of Windows 10 as updated by Microsoft in November. Do a Google search on "Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered Windows 10 Intel 4600" and you'll see numerous owners posting that after Windows was updated in mid-November, the Intel drivers freeze periodically with the error message "Display Driver has Stopped Responding and Has Recovered". There are multiple postings on HP's support forums, postings on Intel's forums and postings on Microsoft's support forums. Neither Microsoft, Intel or HP have a fix for the problem.

If you can live with your screen freezing randomly, every 10 minutes or so, and the error message, the machine is nice. But, there is no real technical support from any of these companies who provide the software, operating system or drivers for the machine,

My brand new Envy 360x is having the same issue.  This is now the second issue with the Graphics Driver.

maryhen, As you found out even a new machine with windows 10 installed has issues.  Unfortunatly it's not just HP machines but reguardless of the computer type, Intel and Microsoft are not addressing this with PC companys.
