Pavillion 11-k013cl x360
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I can't see Wireless as an option after refreshing my laptop.

My Network Card is a 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector).

I think I'm missing the driver as I can't see it under Network Adapters under Device Manager.

  I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro.

  The laptop is a Pavillion 11-k013cl x360.

The Wireless connectivity should work with 802.11ac WLAN.

Internet currently works when plugged to an Ethernet cable.

  Any help?

Hi:

The Intel driver that banhien posted is not for the wireless card your notebook has, according to what is listed on the system requirements tab on the driver page.

Here is the W8.1 driver you need for the Intel 3160:

This package contains drivers for the Intel Wireless LAN adapter in supported models running a supported operating system.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp76501-77000/sp76890.exe

The other two devices shown in your screenshot need these drivers...

PCI device...Download, unzip and run the setup application from the first item listed at the link below...

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=15&PFid=25&Level=4&Conn=3&DownT...

The unknown device probably needs this driver...

This package provides the HP 3D Driveguard Software (HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection) for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The HP 3D Driveguard Software protects the hard drive by parking the heads if the notebook is accidentally dropped, or is abruptly impacted by another object.

Hi,

Your machine uses a weak Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 combination WLAN adapter and driver for Windows 8.1

Hi,

Thanks for the response.  Unfortunately the issue is still unresolved at this time..

I downloaded the Network Card driver from the HP site.  It installed, but I see no change.  Nor do I see the driver in Device Manager > Network Adpaters.

  undefined

As you can see under Other Devices, Network Contoller is showing troubles .. could this be the culprit?  I've tried to update this driver but to no avail.

I'm currently dowloading the BlueTooth driver you pointed me to .. perhaps this in combination with the HP site dowload will work?

Thanks for your help thus far!

Hello!

Success on 2 fronts!  WiFi is restored.  Paul your link worked.

Also the PCl controller driver link worked.  Great!

The unknown device is still unresolved (although the other two were much more important to me).

I already have the 3D Driveguard driver installed that you suggested Paul.

Below is a screenshot of the Properties of that Unknown Device.

Thank you both Banhien and Paul for all your help so far.

You're very welcome, Graham.

The only way to nail down that last device, will be for you to post the hardware ID for it as banhien recommended.

Here are the written instructions to find the hardware ID:

Go to the device manager and click on the unknown device needing the driver.

Then click on the Details tab at the top of the unknown device window.

Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description.

Drop down on that list, and select the 3rd item (Hardware ID's).

Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Hi, Graham:

Here is the link to the driver you need for that device...

This package contains the driver that enables the Intel Virtual Buttons to be used with supported notebook models that are running a supported operation system. Intel Virtual Buttons software allows the virtual buttons to adjust correctly when the screen rotation of the tablet is changed after the system is connected to or disconnected from the docking base.

Hi,

I dowloaded the driver you suggested.  The Unknown Device still appears in Device Manager.

Hardware ID's:

ACPI\VEN_INT&DEV_33D6
ACPI\INT33D6
*INT33D6

At the bottom of this message is a screenshot of what the Device Manager window looks like now.

Also, now it seems that an Audio driver is missing.  I don't think that was there before.

(Hardware ID: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2808&SUBSYS_80860101&REV_1000)

  Computer issues include:

  • not able to dim screen brightness
  • not "Sleep Mode" displayed in power settings.

There are also about 300GB of Windows Updates waiting to install from the Win 8.1 installer.

I'm quite hesitant to install them as it was the latest batch of Optional Installs (Oct 27th) that broke my computer.

I'm currently traveling so will only be able to use the install media that came with the computer upon purchase upon my return.

The MAIN issue was that WiFi connection.  That is SOLVED!

If anyone would like to give these missing drivers another shot, they can go ahead, I'll keep trying!

  Cheers,

Graham
