I play online games on my laptop, WoT, DOTA, etc. and everything worked flawlessly until the past few days, I was getting a ping of 30-90ms but for last few days i was getting heavy lag spikes periodically. i troubleshooted my connection and found out that i has something to do with my laptop's wifi because all other devies connected to the same network works fine and only my laptop had this issue.
So, I tried pinging my router from the laptop and this is the result.

as you can see it periodically goes upto 1971ms ping just to the router, that's nearly 2 seconds without connection.
I tried the same test litreally 10 cm away from my router, to check whether any obstructions were causing it and the results were same.
i tried pinging the router with other devices, my phone and pc, both have no issues and max pings hit by both the other device was 3ms.
Has the wifi card in my laptop developed a fault?

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
I'll be glad to help you 🙂
As I understand the WiFi seems to disconnect at times, though there are no obstructions,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Have you attempted to update the WiFi drivers using the HP Support Assistant?
If you've tried and yet, could not get any update from HPSA, you could access this link to get some latest drivers: Click here
Please also try below step to see it will improve the issue:
1. Open Device Manager
2. Open Network adapters
3. Locate and right-click the Wi-Fi Adapter and then left click on Properties
4. Click Power Management tab
5. uncheck the check mark on "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save the power" and then hit OK
If the issue persists, please run a hardware test on the Wireless card to identify the issue: Click here for steps.
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

I have tried most of the above mentioned things except the hardware test, I think i have solved the problem. I installed the latest drivers from hp but things were the same. But then i tried installing the drivers in safe mode and seemed to have done the job as i ran a ping test overnight yesterday and none of the packets were lost.
Looks like some service didn't allow the driver to install correctly in normal mode. I will run a full malware scan and check if some virus or malware was tampering with something.
Anyways, Thanks for the help 🙂
