I bought the WD 500GB hard drive and installed it properly and all that, but now I get a No bootable device found--Insert boot disk and press any key. I have the 4 recovery disks it came with and even with the disk #1 in the drive it says the same message after a while. The hard drive is brand new and the disks are not scratched or anything, never had to use them before.
At one point it actually did go to the screen where you get the option to retore to factory settings which I did choose, and it seemed to be going fine and even asked for disk #2. After I put number 2 into the drive it looked like it was going ok, but then it ejected and said to insert disk #2 again and again. It ended up having to restart the computer and now I am again stuck at the no bootable disk found message, even with the recovery disk in the drive.
It seemed like I was close to having my pc up and running again.

You will get a no bootable device error until there is an operating system installed or the recovery completes successfully.
If you want to force the system to boot from the disks, you can turn the notebook on and press F9 about once a second to get a boot menu to select the DVD drive.
Were these the disks made by the system or disks ordered through HP?
This document from HP covers a lot of the common issues behind recovery disk failures. As the document notates, you might have to insert the same disk multiple times before it reads it properly.
If you continue to have issues with the recovery disks, you can try DavidPK's workaround in this thread so long as the original Windows 7 product key is still readable. Once Windows 7 is installed in this manner, you can get the drivers and software from here. Be sure to choose the appropriate ISO for your original copy of Windows 7 (for example, English Windows 7 Service Pack 1).

When I bought my computer from futureshop I paid the extra money to get them to setup everything, including software, OS, printer, etc, and they created the 4 recovery disks too. I'll read the document in a minute and try what you said when I get back home.

I got the recovery disks to all go now. I did have to insert it a couple times and use cd cleaner even though it did not look dirty or scratched. My problem now is that after disk 4 is done it ejects saying to remove recovery media, which I did, and it says to press continue. After pressing continue it restarts, like it said it would, but then it still goes to the black screen where it says No bootable device found--Insert boot disk and press any key and it stays there. It said it would restart multiple times, but after this one restart it just went straight to the no bootable device message. I did not touch anything, press anything or turn anything off because the message said not when it said to press continue. I even left it over night for 9 or so hours total, and it just stayed at the screen with that no bootable device message.
It almost seems as though something might be holding it back from doing it's final steps to get it up and running.

At this point, I think it is best to try a different method of getting Windows 7 installed. Is the Windows 7 product key still readable (don't post it)? If so, then there is a different method that may work.
Message 6 of 9 in DavidPK's post details the workaround. Once this copy of Windows 7 is installed, go here for the drivers and software for your system.
Let me know what happens.

My computer is up and running. I didn't need to download the iso or anything. I went to the command prompt and did a boot fix that I read about and then went through the process or using the recovery disk again, and it started doing what it was supposed to do, and now I am typing to you using my notebook.
Thanks a lot though, because I probably would have ended up wanting to smash my computer (lol) in the end out of frustration. I did the things you said and now it's running smoothly on a new hard drive, and I have some main files on one of my jump drives, so if need be I still some important files saved, and can try to recover any other data another time. I had to put the disks in a few times as you said, and just had to learn to have some patience.
I will definitely give Kudos

I am glad everything is working for you. The Windows 7 ISO download should have done the trick as well. 🙂
Of course, using the recovery disks does make things a little easier post install.
Thanks for updating the community. 🙂

My computer is an HP Pavilion go, and it says it PASSED failed the system extenbsive test, the failure was the hard drive smart check. The failure id is MBTQ50
6HB7MU-MFPWW1-60B803
Product ID: D1C11UA#ABA
Is there anything I can do to get it to start? It did this once before and repaired itself, but no such luck this time.
