I did everything and had to go to best buy after to see what was up. The sound board is out so they had to ship it to manufacturer to have that replaced. No computer for next few weeks 😕

Did you lose sound immediately after a BIOS update?

Did the sound driver reinstall without an issue?

What is the exact model you have?  The product number (not the Windows product key) should be on a label on the underside or in the battery compartment.  E.g. ab123cd#efg.

Yes I lost sounds immediately after the update.

The first time i did it there was an error, but I tried again and it downloaded with out a problem.

How long ago did the issue start?  If it was just a few weeks ago, have you tried a system restore?

According to this, your unit is a desktop unit.  The issue described in this thread is typically related to a BIOS update procedure on a notebook.

I didn't see a BIOS update listed for the unit.  Where exactly did the BIOS update come from?

Was this the sound driver that was reinstalled?

Press Windows Key + X and select device manager.  Expand the sound category.  Is the sound card listed without a ? or ! icon?  If it has a ? or a ! icon, open the device and let me know the status message.

The issue started less then a week ago. I tried a system restore but it always fails. Update was in my HP Support Assistant.  Yes thats the sound driver was the one I reinstalled, says everything is working, but also says the drivers version is 6.10.6418.0

When the system restore fails, does it just say it failed or does it also give an error message indicating why it failed?

Says it failed probably because my anti virus blocked it. So I turned it off and did it again and says the same thing.

Some security programs say they are disabled when they are not 100% disabled.  I know of a few antivirus programs that operate in that fashion.

I would recommend using System Restore in Safe Mode as outlined in this document.  It is the second step from the bottom of the document.
