You are lucky then . thank your stars :smileysurprised:. unfortunately thousands (incl me) here  on vaiours forums  out here are still struggling with these crappy issues afer Win10 upgrade/fresh installs.

So there is no confusion, here is what I have done so far:

1.  Last night, reverted back to Win 8.1

2.  Ran Windows Update to get ALL possibile Win 8.1 updates I could.  Rebooted.

3.  Ran Windiows Update again to get MORE updates -- rebooted

4.  Tested sleep -- worked.

5.  Ran Windows Update again -- got some more updates -- rebooted.

6.  Tested sleep again -- worked.

7.  2-3 hours of use -- updated BIOS to the most recent stable release.  Rebooted (obviously).

8.  Ran Windows Update again -- rebooted.

9.  Verified installed drivers as compared to my previous Windows 10 install.  They were different (as expected).

10.  Tested sleep -- worked

11.  Around 12:30 AM ET I ran sleep again (I was beat and needed sleep).  Worked.

12.  Friday morning woke the machine from sleep -- no issues.

13.  Downloaded the 64 bit Win10 upgrade from the Download web site.

14. Installed

15.  Tested sleep immediately (system was up for an hour).  Worked.

16.  Checked Intel Chipset Driver for Graphics -- it was at 4256 (for those who know what I mean by that).

17.  Worked some more.  System up for 2 hours. Tested sleep.  Worked (as of 11:19 AM ET USA).

Summary:  This was NOT A CLEAN INSTALL.  It was not a FORMAT and INSTALL from ISO with an empty HD partition.  It was a direct upgrade bypassing Windows Update.

From the above we can conclude that, there is some component on windows 7 and windows 8.1, which on upgrade to windows 10 is still present in Windows 10 which helps in proper shut down of our laptops. And the same component is absent on a clean install of windows 10 and thats why our shut downs are not proper. And it looks like all users who have done an upgrade are facing no issues. Well I have done a clean format and hence, I am getting errors while shutdown.
But no idea, why they even work, in case we shut down/reboot/sleep quickly after boot??

Dear MS,, now see that??? Now come on, fix that missing thing in your iso or release an update in your FORCEFUL windows update which fixes it.

Right.  That makes sense BUT I am still not ready to say this is resolved on my end until I can do the SLEEP / POWER / etc.  things consistently.

This part is not accurate.  There are numerous users on this thread who upgraded and are dealing with the same issue.

The debate seems to be whether upgrading in one manner versus another makes a difference.

But of course that doesn't change the fact that we desperately need a permanent, actual fix from Microsoft and/or HP!

Looking forward to it, meanwhile downloading the latest ISO from  MS Tool kit first.

Already downloaded the first version (July 29) and downloading it again now. (This is painfull, my speed is only 2.7Mbps)

I want to compare that both ISO, where there are any differents or they just the same.

The Build 10240 for Insider Program, the RTM (Release To Manufactures) and the latest ISO available in the Microsoft website are all the same!

@Re4med

Thanks , your solution is a possible solution and it seems to be working

I have been part of the froum since the day 1 and have read almost every post..Here is my complete story

Machine: HP envy 15, touchsmart -k012 nr (Energy star)

1) Upgraded to windows 10 (july 29th) and immediately started having the shut down issue

2) Kept waiting for the solution from MS and HP but to no avail

3) decided to revert back on 5th August , was tired of hard shutdowns

4) Tried to revert back, but was told I cannot because old windows files were delted (I didnt delete anything)

5) Tired to resotre it to a restore point

6) Restore successful without any error, but couldnt log in coz the screen kept flashing

7) had to do the factory restore on the night of 5th August

😎 installed all the softwares again..took me 2-3 days to bring the machine back to where it was before(customization, settings etc etc.)

9) Took the plunge yesterday (upgraded it to windows 10 again using the ISO image tool)

10) Mahcine is working fine..(most usage 1.5 hrs and shut down perfect)

11) will post more after longer usage
