Yeah, it doesn't make sense at all, but it is what happened. I have a Pavilion dv7 6143CL with 8GB RAM, i7-2630QM processor and Radeon 6770 graphics, and it heats up as fast as it sounds. It is summer here now and my pathetic little air conditioner provides no amount of cooling against my machine, so I turned it off and decided to vacuum the CPU fan to get rid of extra dust that may prevent it from cooling. When I turned it back on again, it failed to produce me the lovely "hp" starting screen but instead blinked the Caps Lock indicator light (this model has no Num Lock indicator light) to me in a fashion that has a pause between every three beats. after I looked it up online (here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01443366) I understood this problem as being on the RAM, so I reseated it with no avail. (FYI: my RAM came with the computer, 2*4GB 1066 DDR3) Then I ripped another RAM (2GB 1066 DDR3) from my old laptop that i stocked in the corner for occations just like this and installed on my computer, and it did indeed starts up. The strange thing is, when I placed my supposedly messed up RAM on other computers, they starts up just fine and Memory Testings demonstrates no problem, but when i reinstalled them/any one of them on my laptop it again stops working. I also discovered that I can "cheat" my laptop into accepting the 4GB RAM by using only the 2GB ram at first to startup, then insert the 4gb ram and restart, but it is physically impossible to get another 4-gb ram accepted using this method. I work with photoshop a lot and I do not accept the 25% reduction in the tasks i'm allowed to open at once. Yes, this is as crazy as it sounds but it happens and i'm using a laptop with 6GB RAM to tell you guys this right now. Have anyone faced similar problems before? Have anyone managed to solve it? Will changing both RAM with new ones help? Thank you for any assistance you guys may offer.

Hello flymouse.
That is indeed a strange problem. I would suggest first booting into Windows (with whatever RAM configuration you can) and updating the BIOS. Here is a link to the latest BIOS. Once you've updated it you can try to install the original RAM; make sure to post the result.
Have a lovely evening!
