HP Color Laser 150nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The bottom of any prints (colour or just Black and white) have a ghost image of the top quarter of the print on the bottom quarter of of the page.

Toner ( HP ) cartridges look ok, as does the drum.

Cartridges have been removed and shaken.

The waste toner catcher was emptied.

The drum unit looks ok.

No errors on the printer.

Unit is approx 2 years old ( no problems till now ).

Is this a "replace drum" solution (price-wise, affordable), or Fuserunit  (not affordable )?

I lifted a grey flap on top of the printer which I believe shows the fuser unit ( orange hot roller ( did not touch ) ), and this looks ok also.

thanks

Hi @G-Oker ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already done some troubleshooting! The issue you're experiencing with ghost printing could indeed be caused by either a worn drum or a faulty fuser unit.

Before jumping to conclusions, it might be worth trying a few additional steps:

  • Clean the printer: Sometimes, dust or debris can accumulate inside the printer and cause print quality issues. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the inside of the printer, especially around the drum and fuser unit area.
  • Check printer settings: Ensure that the printer settings are optimized for the type of paper you're using. Sometimes, incorrect settings can lead to poor print quality.
  • Print a test page: Most printers have a built-in test page function. Printing a test page can help identify whether the issue is specific to certain types of documents or if it persists across all print jobs.

Refer to this document: HP Color Laser 150nw User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

HI, I tried all those options before posting (apologies if I forgot ot mention this) as I saw other posts with the same machine/problem.

Printer settings have not changed for the years I have owned the machine, so I doubted very much it would be those.

I purchased a replacement 3rd party drum from Amazon (sorry, but HP ones re 3x as much ), and that seems to have resolved the issue (windows test print shows no sign of ghosting ).

thank you for your help.
