I purchased an HP OfficeJet8022E about 2 months ago. I have printed probably < 100pages using only the black cartridge. Yesterday I went to print a color photo and to my surprise all 3 color cartridges were empty. This is the first time that I tried to print something in color. Why are all 3 tanks empty with no use?

I purchased an HP OfficeJet8022E about 2 months ago. I have printed probably < 100pages of black text only; no color at all. Yesterday, I went to print a color photo and it printed in black only. I checked the ink levels on the printer. To my surprise all 3 color cartridges were empty. This is the first time that I tried to print something in color since I purchased the printer 2 months ago. My question is, why are all 3 color tanks empty when I have not printed in color?

Treeko,

Steps 1-4 I have tried. Printer has HP cartridges that came with the printer, correctly installed.

Step 5 shows that the color cartridges are empty.

Step 6, I am not about to spend $100 on color ink cartridges without resolving my problem.  As I stated in my previous emails,  I have not printed anything in color since I purchased the printer 2 months ago, until last week, when I tried to print a color photo, and the 3 color cartridges were empty.

Steps 7-12 If you want to send me 3 color cartridges at your expense, than I will proceed with steps 7-12. But I don't believe that is the problem.. I am technically and computer minded.

I have read some articles on the internet that said the printer uses color even when printing just black. Also I have read that the printer uses color ink during its cleaning cycles every so often. Can you confirm these 2 points? If this is the case, than that would explain why the 3 tanks are empty.

If I have to install 3 color cartridges every couple of months at $100, than I am not happy with that, and the printer will be returned to the place of purchase. I have had a number of different printers over the last 40 years, and this is the first time I have found empty cartridges that have never been used.
