I'm having issues with my printer not printing any black ink at all! It only just started today, I've never had this issue before. I have tried cleaning the printheads, cleaning smears, manually cleaning the underside of the ink carriage... heck, I've done the ole "turn it off and back on again" over and over and over... to no avail. Not sure what's going on. The printer recognizes the black ink cartridge is installed. I just installed my first Instant Ink cartridges, but it's doing it with the old black cartridge as well. I tried aligning the printheads, but the print out literally just does not have ANY black ink at all on it, and thus cannot be recognized by the scanner.

 

Can anyone help before I take a hammer to this thing? 😂

Fabulous analysis. Spectacular diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps. 

 

If you have already performed the steps from this document, then it could be either the cartridge is faulty or the printer needs to be checked. 

 

Since you mentioned that, you are using instant ink cartridges, 

 

I would need to know a few details regarding your Instant ink account to help you get the ink cartridges sorted.

I actually called HP support and spoke with several representatives over the phone. What ended up being decided was that this was likely a hardware issue with the ink carriage, since the printer occasionally shows a paper jam that does not exist. What's incredibly frustrating, though, is the printer definitely recognizes that a cartridge is installed, but fails to print with black ink at all. Unfortunately, I had the HP rep over the phone cancel my Instant Ink subscription so I didn't accrue any charges while troubleshooting the defective unit.
