HP LaserJet Pro M118dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Experiencing black splotches of toner down the right side of printed pages. Product is HP Laserjet Pro M118dw. Could weight of paper being used be the issue?  I use this printer to print business checks, which are probably a slightly heavier bond.

Thanks.

Are the splotches evenly spaced and identical or are they random? Media will not typically cause this type of issue, it is usually related to a failure of toner control measures built into the cartridge or drum unit.

Yes, they are identical, and they build up in saturation of toner as I print more copies - they get darker until they eventually max out.  Would you then just recommend trying new drum and/or cartridge then? Thank you.

I just thought it was odd that the splotches are mostly only occurring when I print checks, on the slightly heavier bond paper.  Nothing on regular copy paper.

I will see if I can locate a repetitive defect chart. You then measure the distance between repeating marks and the exact cause of the issue will be shown.
