Hi @JackP7
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand the concern. If your HP Smart Tank 7603 All-in-One Printer is printing only in black when printing from your phone, the issue is often related to the mobile print settings, app settings, or the printer's color printing configuration.
Please try the following steps:
Verify Color Printing is Selected on Your Phone
- When you tap Print, look for Color Options or Color Mode in the print preview screen.
- Make sure Color is selected instead of Black & White, Monochrome, or Grayscale.
Check the HP App Print Settings
- Open the HP App.
- Select your printer.
- Print a photo or color document directly from the app.
- Confirm that Color Printing is enabled before sending the job.
Print a Color Test Page
- From the printer control panel or the HP App, print a printer status or quality report.
- If the report prints in color, the printer hardware and ink system are working correctly, and the issue is likely related to the mobile print settings.
Confirm Ink Levels
- Open the HP App and review the ink levels for:
- Cyan
- Magenta
- Yellow
- Black
- Ensure the color tanks contain ink above the minimum level.
Check Print Quality Settings
- In the HP App, select a higher print quality setting if available.
- Some applications may automatically choose black-only printing for certain document types.
Restart the Printing Environment
- Turn the printer off and back on.
- Restart the phone.
- Reconnect to the same wireless network and try printing a color photo again.
Update the HP App
- Ensure you are using the latest version of the HP App on your phone.
- After updating, remove the existing printer from the app and add it again.
A quick check that often helps identify the cause is to print a color photo directly from the HP App. If the photo prints in color, the printer is functioning properly and the original application being used on the phone is likely sending the job in black-and-white mode.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
