Good Morning Community, +40 Year Hp Customer. 66 year old disabled Master Auto Tech pleading for community help. Last Thursday I got a message stating that 951 Magenta ink cartridge was out of ink. Before HP ink, was getting my official ink cartridges from Amazon. In April of 2021 I ordered a complete 950 & 951xl cartridges though HP Ink Online. Hp Officejet has maybe 2,000 prints since 2012. After replacing Magenta ink cartridge started getting incompatible ink cartridge. Called HP ink & rep stated possible defective ink cartridge. $40.00 later & overnight express fees received cartridge. Installed in Magenta port, only to get incompatible 951 ink cartridge. Called Hp Support in India & immediately agent Dhamodaran started trying to sell me new $350.00 Hp Printer. WHAT!!! I got an issue of incompatible ink cartridge. I don't need new printer. Progressed it to supervisor Alfred who stated same thing. Need new Printer. Over 2 1/2 hours with support, not including the 1 1/2 hours on hold waiting. Got nowhere except need new printer. After getting off phone, started researching problem. Noticed that in 2017 HP had downloaded a special software update that bascially wanted to stop the piracy & copyright protections from everyone making unofficial hp cartridges. All my cartridges are official Hp cartridges. Started to notice that new cartridges from Hp were Coded with a Z10 . My magenta was a Z20 back when i purchased them thru Amazon in 2016. Diving more in to that problem, found that the software update locked your printer because they had regionalized the cartridges. You got USA cartridges there were coded with a Z10, Z20 were European. so now, no one here in the states can get a Z20 cartridge. For instance HP policy " bought a new car & need an oil change, sorry oil obsolete. Need a new car. What!!!" They locked your printer down because they will not let you print in black in white. You are screwed. . I understand the rip-offs that Hp is going thru but I don't buy unofficial cartridges. I am basically being punished for being a loyal customer. Try to live on a Disability pay check. Can't afford to buy groceries, Mortage, utilities much less a new Printer plus new $250.00 in new XL cartridges. Got over $300.00 dollars in Z10 Cartridges which are now useless. Very upset at the policy they are putting on there loyal customers. In the support page on the printer, I see where under region, it says 2 for my Magenta cartridge. the Cyan, Black, Yellow are 1. It will not allow you to change regions under the display support menu. How could a simple ran out of ink issue cause this fiasco!!!! I could hear in the background with support in India where everyone was yelling, clapping, stating they had reached there sales quota for the day. What the hell!!! Community please help Thank You.

Mr. Buttazyo1, Mr. Davis, I am not sure if you were able to get your printer fix yet? Yesterday, I was able to receive the regional reset codes for the printer. It worked!! I would recommend getting a hold of @Bob_Headrick who posted so much information on my case. This Guy is simply amazing. Look him up on my post. Let me know Mr. Davis.

@DD8712 Thanks for the thanks. I am sorry this process took so long to get resolved, it seems that about everything that could go wrong with your case did. The good news is that this should be a one-time thing, now that the region has been reset you are good as long as you do not move outside the US.
Let's hope you get another good decade of use out of your Officejet Pro 8600. My Officejet Pro 8600 Plus is my favorite printer in recent years, despite its age.
I am not an employee of HP, I am a volunteer posting here on my own time.
