The error message after trying to scan alignment page reads 'alignment page not detected'. I guess this is because it is only printing in Black and not Colour.

Yes, the alignment page must contain both black and colour marks on the sheet so that the printer can detect and finish alignment.

I was thinking that too Valsimot, so why is it not printing in colour? I have tried 2 different cartridges.

Soak the bottom part of the color ink cartridge in hot water for a few seconds, then use paper towel to wipe bottom part it should leave clear visible ink marks in 3 colours.

I did that but unfortunately it is still only printing in Black and not colour.
