Can I use 1 cartridge rather than two when printing,?

Hello, I have a HP Envy Photo 6220 printer. It takes 2 cartridges - one black 303 and one tricolour 303.

I hardly print in colour, I mostly print or copy pages in black using the black cartridge. The colour cartridge is very low and normally I would take it out and replace it but they are more expensive than black so is it o.k to print with one black cartridge inside only? 

Would it do any harm or do both cartridges really need to be present inside all the time?

Some can print with a cartridge removed, others cannot.

You may need to set the printer property default to not use color first.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I'll select 'print in black' option when printing from computer. I haven't tried it yet, so you could yet be right that it may not let me print with only one cartridge.  Thanks for your help. 😀
