The cartridge protection can be disabled as described in the post here for a similar printer, but this may not be what you need.
Cartridge Protection is a process that marks a cartridge when it is installed in the printer so it can only be used in that printer. This "protects" cartridges from being removed and used in other printers. Removing the cartridge protection only changes what happens when new cartridges are installed. If the cartridge protection has already been set (on a different printer) turning off the cartridge protection for your printer will not allow using a cartridge that has already been "protected".
