'Cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP instant ink' error on printer screen. Cannot back out of error message, printer appears to be connected to wi-fi. Instant Ink never connects. Tried to remove from instant ink but that doesn't seem to work. Factory reset does not work. I can see settings in "i-i" account but it is stuck in "Contacting printer..." and occasionally gets to "unable to connect to the printer, check your connection and try again later. This is beyond frustrating!!
I can do NOTHING on the printer screen itself. It is just stuck on the error message. I think the only solution would be to go purchase non-i-i cartridges which I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO!! I thought maybe I could cancel the i-i then reregister the printer but that has not worked either.

@FIClean, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Instant Ink Enrollment Error!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer is displaying the error 'Cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink,' follow these steps to resolve this issue:
Check HP Instant Ink Enrollment:
- Ensure your printer is properly enrolled in HP Instant Ink. Instant Ink-ready cartridges require printers to be enrolled to function. If not enrolled, visit HP Instant Ink and click Sign Up Now.
Check Printer Status:
- Log into your Instant Ink account:
- For Home / Home Office users, sign into your Instant Ink account.
- Navigate to Overview or Printers to check the printer status:
- Ready to print: Restart the printer to clear the error.
- Not ready to print: Click the refresh button and browser reload several times until it changes to Ready to print.
Verify Printer Connection:
- Ensure the printer is connected to the internet. Instant Ink requires an active connection.
- Wi-Fi: The blue wireless light on the printer should be solid (not blinking).
- Ethernet: The light next to the Ethernet port should be lit.
Turn On Web Services:
- Web Services should be enabled as they facilitate communication with Instant Ink services. For more instructions on enabling Web Services, you can refer to HP Printers - Turn On Web Services.
Use Compatible Networks:
- Ensure your connection isn't a guest network which might be incompatible with Instant Ink.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
