I continue to get an error that the print cartridge will not communicate even after I’ve cleaned the connection point I’ve completely powered off and unplugged. The printer removed all the cartridges and reinstalled. It is a brand, new cartridge,

Hi @Jdaniel369

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for the detailed information. We understand that the printer continues to display a cartridge communication error even after cleaning the contacts, power cycling the printer, removing and reinstalling the cartridges, and installing a new cartridge.

Since the cartridge is new and the basic troubleshooting has already been completed, please try the following steps:

Verify that the cartridge is the correct cartridge for your printer model and region.

Remove the affected cartridge and inspect the copper-colored electrical contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer. Ensure there is no protective tape, debris, ink buildup, or bent contact pins.

With the printer powered on, remove the cartridge, wait about 60 seconds, then firmly reinstall it until it clicks securely into place.

If your printer uses multiple cartridges, install them one at a time and check whether the error appears with a specific cartridge.

Restore the printer to factory defaults from the printer control panel:

  • Open Setup or Settings.
  • Select Printer Maintenance or Tools.
  • Choose Restore Factory Defaults.

Update the printer firmware:

  • Open the HP App.
  • Select your printer.
  • Check for and install any available firmware updates.

If available for your model, test with another genuine HP cartridge. A new cartridge can occasionally fail to establish proper electrical communication with the printer.

If the same cartridge communication error persists after completing these steps, please share the exact printer model and the complete error message shown on the printer display or HP App so we can provide model-specific guidance.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Regards,
