Hi  @Gimbals1

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I can understand how confusing it can be when a new cartridge is recognized as an HP-approved cartridge, but then the printer immediately indicates that it needs to be replaced. I'm happy to help look into this with you.

To better understand what's happening, could you kindly provide:

  • The exact HP printer model number.
  • Whether the cartridge is a genuine HP cartridge or an HP Instant Ink cartridge.
  • Kindly share the picture of the cartridge
  • What exact message is displayed on the printer screen or in the HP  app.

In the meantime, kindly try the following steps:

  1. Turn the printer on and open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove the affected cartridge.
  3. Check for any protective tape or packaging material that may still be attached to the cartridge contacts.
  4. Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth.
  5. Reinstall the cartridge firmly and close the access door.
  6. Restart the printer and check if the message persists.
  7. If available, print a Printer Status or Quality Report from the printer menu.

Also, kindly let us know Is the printer enrolled in HP Instant Ink?

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
