@JackieaMor, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding a cartridge issue!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Here’s a simple troubleshooting guide for an HP printer that is not able to read the cartridge:

Check for Error Messages:

  • Note any error codes or messages displayed on the printer screen.

Turn Off and Restart the Printer:

  • Power off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for 60 seconds, and then turn it back on.

Verify Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure the cartridge is compatible with the specific printer model.
  • If it's a new cartridge, confirm it is an original HP cartridge.

Remove and Reinsert the Cartridge:

  • Open the printer cover and carefully remove the cartridge.
  • Check for protective tape on the cartridge and remove it if present.
  • Reinsert the cartridge securely and close the cover.

Clean the Cartridge and Printer Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and the printer.
  • Let it dry for a few minutes, then reinsert the cartridge.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check if the printer firmware is outdated and update it via the HP website.

Try a Different Cartridge:

  • If available, test with another working cartridge to check if the issue is with the printer or the cartridge itself.
