HP 7955e Printer
Cartridges not communicating correctly with printer.
I have cleaned the contacts, replaced the cartridges, rebooted the printer and checked for updates with no luck. The printer and the cartridges will not communicate. The warranty expired five months before this defect became apparent and, if I cannot resolved the problem I will need to replace the printer. Probably not with another HP under the circumstances.
Does anyone have a suggestion?

Hi @dqwiggi,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When you encounter an issue where cartridges are not communicating correctly with your HP 7955e printer, it can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you address this issue.
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Make sure the cartridges are correctly installed in their respective slots. Ensure they are securely clicked into place.
Use Genuine HP Cartridges:
- HP printers often work best with genuine HP ink or toner cartridges. Using third-party or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause compatibility issues.
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off your printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication problems.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Check if there is a firmware update available for your HP 7955e printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes improve cartridge communication.
Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Remove the cartridges.
- Gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and inside the cartridge slots with a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water. Ensure they are completely dry before reinserting the cartridges.
Reset the Printer:
- Some HP printers have a reset option in the settings menu. Check your printer's user manual or HP's official website for instructions on how to perform a reset.
Check for Error Messages:
- Look for any error messages or notifications on the printer's display or on your computer screen. These messages can provide valuable information about the issue.
Reinstall Cartridges:
- Remove the cartridges and then reinstall them. Ensure they are securely and properly seated.
Check for Updates on Your Computer:
- Ensure your computer's operating system and printer drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause communication problems.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
