Hi @Michael992,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. When your HP Smart Tank Plus 555's ink carriage (trolley) doesn’t move to the centre when you open the access door, it’s often because the printer is either not powered properly or it’s in an error or sleep state.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting :

  1. Check Power Status
    • Make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip.
    • Ensure it is powered ON. If the control panel is blank or unresponsive, press the Power button once.

  2. Fully Open the Ink Access Door
    • Open the entire ink cartridge access cover (not just the front flap).
    • The carriage should move to the centre within 10–15 seconds. If not, continue.

  3. Perform a Power Reset
    • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cable from the back of the printer.
    • Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
    • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it directly back into the wall outlet first, then the printer.
    • Turn the printer back on if it doesn't power up automatically.

  4. Try Again
    • Open the cartridge access door and wait to see if the carriage moves now.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
