After I installed the HP Smart app to my computer, my printer no longer wants to print. I am getting an error message saying "Cartridges Rejected: The indicated cartridges have been identified as altered or cloned. HP+  printers require original HP cartridges. Replace non-original cartridges to continue printing."
My printer worked perfectly fine before downloading HP Smart in order to scan a document and now this issue has kept me from printing various materials. I have tried a hard reset and even wiping down the cartridge contacts, nothing is working. If I am required to purchase "HP" brand only cartridges I will simply return this printer to Costco and go with another brand that doesn't attempt to monopolize its customers. Please provide a clear and simple solution.

Hi @CBeutler,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're stoked to have you on board!

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please share the model name of your device?

Meanwhile, you can try these steps.

Verify Cartridge Authenticity

  1. Ensure that the installed cartridges are indeed genuine HP cartridges. Check for the HP logo and the holographic security label.
  2. You can verify the authenticity of your cartridges using one of the following methods:
    • QR Code: Use a QR code scanner app to scan the QR code on the cartridge box.
    • HP Anti-Counterfeit Website: Visit hp.com/go/ok, enter the toner cartridge serial number, and click Verify.

Replace Non-HP Cartridges

If you have identified any non-original or altered cartridges, replace them with genuine HP cartridges. You can purchase genuine HP supplies from the HP Store or through local retailers.

Reinstall Cartridges

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  2. Open the cartridge access door.
  3. Remove all cartridges from the printer.
  4. Reinsert genuine HP cartridges into the corresponding slots.
  5. Close the cartridge access door.
  6. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer for about 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

I hope this helps.

Original HP,  K. cartridge only taken out and inspected. Put back in place and it is rejected; nothing helps. PLEASE HELP.
