No longer get color from printer. Cartridge is fine. Printing Status report shows perfect color/BW samples, Cleaning, alignment all normal. Wondering if recent driver update for graphics card or loss of HP Print Doctor package support has compromised communication. Wondering if IP address should be printer or router?

Can still print, just not in color?

Hi @rfbnc

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP OfficeJet 4650 is no longer printing in color despite the cartridges being fine and the printer running normal cleaning and alignment processes, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue:

1. Check the Print Settings

Ensure that the print settings on your computer are configured to print in color:

  • Open the print dialog box from your application.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet 4650 printer.
  • Click on the Properties or Preferences button.
  • Navigate to the Printing Preferences or Paper/Quality tab.
  • Make sure that the option Print in Color is selected rather than Print in Grayscale.

2. Uninstall and Reinstall the HP Printer Software

If you suspect recent updates or installations might have caused issues, try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP printer software.

  • Uninstall the printer software from your computer.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Download the latest driver for your printer from the HP official website.
  • Follow the prompts to reinstall the printer software.

3. Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS)

Run this troubleshooting tool built into the HP Smart app for Mac and Windows computers if you are experiencing issues with your printer.

4. Verify Network Configuration

Ensure that your printer is correctly configured on the network:

  • Print a network configuration page from the printer. This page will show the printer's IP address.
  • Check if the printer’s IP address is configured correctly:
    • Open the printer properties on your computer.
    • Click on the Ports tab.
    • Verify that the current IP address for the printer matches the IP address shown on the network configuration page.

If these steps do not resolve the problem and you can still print but not in color, reset the printer's network settings:

  • Navigate to the Wireless Settings on the printer.
  • Select Restore Defaults and confirm by selecting Yes.
  • Print a network configuration page to verify the printer’s IP address has been reset.

5. Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings

Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking communication between your computer and the printer.
