HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw

Hello, any help is much appreciated!

We just got the Color Laser Jet Pro M255dw and for some reason the colour printing is way off. Things that should be orange are coming out pink, blues are more purple than blue, yellow was more grey than yellow etc.

I've tried adjusting the colour and paper settings before printing, but it doesn't seem to make any improvement. I'm not sure what to do to make it print the right colours. I know that it won't be exactly how I see it on my monitor, but this is very far off.

Hi @Aevi-Marketing,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When the colors printed by your HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw are significantly off, it can be due to a variety of issues ranging from incorrect settings to hardware problems. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Printer Settings

  • Color Calibration: Most HP color laser printers have a built-in color calibration feature. Access the printer's menu and find the color calibration option (usually under the "Quality" or "Maintenance" menu) and perform a calibration.
  • Color Management: Ensure that the color management settings on your computer and printer are correct. This includes checking the print settings in your application to make sure they are not overriding the printer’s color management.

Update Firmware and Drivers

  • Firmware: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. You can usually find the latest firmware on HP's support website.
  • Drivers: Download and install the latest drivers for your printer from HP’s website. Sometimes outdated or corrupt drivers can cause color printing issues.

Print Quality Diagnostics

  • Print Quality Diagnostic Page: Print a diagnostic page from the printer's control panel. This page can help you determine if the problem is with the printer itself or if it's an issue with the communication between the printer and your computer.

Check Toner Cartridges

  • Toner Levels: Low or depleted toner cartridges can cause color distortion. Check the toner levels and replace any cartridges that are low or empty.
  • Genuine Cartridges: Make sure you are using genuine HP toner cartridges. Third-party cartridges can sometimes cause color discrepancies.

Adjust Color Settings

  • Manual Color Adjustments: Some HP printers allow you to manually adjust the color settings. You can access this through the printer properties on your computer.

Reset Printer to Factory Settings

  • Factory Reset: If none of the above steps work, you may want to reset the printer to its factory settings. This option can usually be found in the settings menu on the printer’s control panel. Be aware that this will erase any custom settings you have configured.

Test on Different Software

  • Different Applications: Try printing from different software applications to see if the problem persists. Sometimes, the issue might be specific to the application you are using.

Environmental Factors

  • Paper Type and Quality: Ensure you are using the correct type of paper for color printing. Different paper types can affect color output.
  • Humidity and Temperature: Environmental factors such as humidity and temperature can affect print quality. Make sure the printer is in an environment that is within the recommended operating conditions.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and correct the color printing issues with your HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the suggestions! I've tried all but the factory reset, and none seem to solve the problem. So that will be my next step.
