3 months ago I began getting intermittent "cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer" errors. At first it was just a passing message that did not repeat when I tried to print again. It then began to pop up more frequently, specifying the black cartridge as the culprit. My cartridges are all valid HP carts from the Instant Ink program, and there were no print quality problems. The cart was the high-capacity black and still had plenty of ink. When the printer did print (no error message) the print quality was just fine. I went through the cleaning procedure for both the cartridge contacts as well as those on the cartridge carrier to no avail. I even broke out my one available Instant Ink black cartridge with no luck. The intermittent problem continued.
All this time I had been on the phone with HP support who finally agreed to send me a replacement black cartridge, in spite of the fact that I thought I had proved that it was not a cartridge problem. But they sent one anyway. When it arrived, I installed it just out of desperation and eventually the error again appeared.
So now, the problem has reappeared but is no longer intermittent. Hi capacity black cartridge with plenty of ink with a now continuous error message. And again, print quality is perfect when it does (did) print. And I went through the whole contact cleaning routine again as well.
By the way, I did do the single cartridge print method (removing the black cart) and it works fine.Error message
