Ink ran out, I replaced it, still getting "depleted cartridge" message. I've tried fixes mentioned on this site: turning machine off, cleaning cartridge. Of course this happened in the middle of a print job. Can anyone from HP or the community give an answer that works? This shouldn't happen because replacing an ink cartridge shouldn't be a complication.

Hi,

Which ink cartridge is listed and which ink cartridge was replaces? be aware that any ink cartridge must have ink to allow printing:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04331666

Check above or below the error message for which ink cartridge is indicated, you will see a colored circle with the cartridge indication (K=Black, M=Magenta, C-Cyan, Y=Yellow)

Also, click Hide and scroll down the top icons bar, then click the ink drop icon and verify the status of all ink cartridges, be sure to have a replacement available for any low level ink cartridge.

Solved the problem!! The system will only show on depleted cartridge at a time. After replacing the first cartridge I finally opened up the window on my computer and checked in levels again and saw that now another cartridge was empty. Replaced that, opened up the window again and saw that yet another cartridge was reading empty. This seems like a bug in the system. Shouldn't it be possible to see all empty cartridges at one time?

Thank you, but I figured it out. The printer will only show one empty cartridge at a time so I ultimately had to replace three cartridges but only got the notice each was empty sequentially instead of at the same time.

The printer prompts for empty cartridges, not for low ink levels.

Always verify the estimated ink levels indicator when getting such a prompt and have replacement cartridges available for low ink cartridges, as the printer preparation consume ink upon installing any new ink cartridge.

Also be aware that this can easily be checked from the printer screen and no need to move among the devices, hide the error message and press the top bar, then the top ink drop icon to see the ink levels.
