Hi @drakeuk,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with the replacement ink cartridges for your HP Deskjet 2900 printer. Here are several steps you can consider to determine if the cartridges are faulty or if there might be another issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the replacement ink cartridges are compatible with your Deskjet 2900 model. Sometimes, even if cartridges are sent by HP, a mix-up can occur. Which cartridges work with my HP printer? | HP® Support.

Reinstall the Ink Cartridges: Double-check the installation of the cartridges. Sometimes reseating them can resolve issues. Make sure they click firmly into place.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Verify that the ink cartridges are genuine HP products. Non-genuine or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause issues.

Inspect Cartridge Contacts: Make sure the electrical contacts on the cartridges are clean and free from any debris. You said you cleaned them with distilled water, which is good, but ensure they are dry before reinstalling.

Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait about one minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Errors: The flashing E0 error may indicate a cartridge issue. Ensure no foreign objects are blocking the cartridge carriage. If applicable, consult your printer manual for guidance on error codes.

Connection and Firmware: Make sure your printer is properly connected to a computer or network, which might help with diagnosis. Even though you checked firmware updates, make sure your printer software is up-to-date. Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
