Deskjet 8620 all in one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My deskjet 8620 used to print photos and text fine.  I have only been printing black text for the most part the past year, but I tried printing photos yesterday they are all way too dark.  I then did a color text print and that is also too dark.  EVERYTHING is printing dark now.  I have tried all of the solutions listed and NONE of them work (reinstalling software, cleaning heads, aligning heads, trying different ink, paper, settings, etc.  And it says the heads are good.)  I cannot download the 6890 driver that one of the solutions suggested, so I can't try that option.  Anyone else have any solutions?  I have been an HP printer customer for decades, but this is probably the last printer from HP I will purchase as this problem should not be happening, especially for as little as I have used this printer.

@kimbare, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Are you referring to an HP Officejet 8620 printer?

Refer to this document to know how to find the Product Name or Product Number.

Try making a standalone copy in color and check if that prints fine. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Which application are you trying to print from? Check the print settings.

Set to Draft or Normal mode and try printing. For more details on print settings, click here. Check under Print quality and improvement settings.

  • In the software program, you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print. The Print dialog box will open.
  • Select your product from the Name drop-down menu, and then click Properties. The Properties dialog box will then open.
  • Click the Paper/Quality tab.
  •  Under Quality Settings, you will be able to increase the print quality

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Yes, I am referring to the Officejet 8620 printer.  Autocorrect changed it for me, unfortunately.

If you would read what I wrote, I have already tried all of the things you listed.  I specifically stated that so I wouldn't have to get told to do it again.  And as I stated, it used to work great but now all of the colors are wrong and everything is much darker than it should be, especially photos, but also colored ink.

It does not matter what program I use to try and print from, the results are the same.  (For example, Word, Excel, Cyberlink Photodirector, Paint, Paint 3D, etc.)

BTW - I don't ever use draft to print and I always have the quality set to high when printing photos or important documents.  Again - I already tried all that you listed and more - and none of it made a difference.

@kimbare

I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve this issue by performing the necessary troubleshooting steps. If the issue persists, this could be the ink cartridges or the printhead. Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
