I have always tried to purchase genuine HP cartridges, but there are times when there is no stock. I have wasted A TON OF MONEY buying "compatible cartridges" online just to have the printer disable printing with "cartridge failures" (usually right after a firmware update).
Is there a way to bypass the "compatible cartridge" check? This is VERY FRUSTRATING!

Hi@ChrisKArgh, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand that notebook has an issue with the printer,
Request you to follow the below troubleshooting steps
1) Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent.
3) With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Wait for 60 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.
5) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on
Keep me posted. Happy to help!

No ... that does not work. I get the message "Black Cartridge: Cartridge Failure" ... this cartridge was working until the printer downloaded the last update. I don't want the printer to check for cartridge compatibility. I purchased cartridges which were certified "compatible" ... I just want to print!

As this is a hardware issue, I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer.
If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
