I have a c4580 printer and only have a black cartridge in it. I keep getting a missing cartridge alert.

Does the unit need a tri colour cartridge to work or should it work with just the black one?

That printer model needs to have both ink cartridges to work.

Hi,

Apologies for jumping in.

 

The printer does work with single ink cartridge and allow printing from a computer, including its user guide below:

What exact error message you see on your computer? which cartridge is intimidate by the error message? a black circle incidates the black ink cartridge, 3 dots indicates the Tri-Color cartridge.
