Hi @bizdata,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering an error message during the setup of a new HP printer, specifically related to new unused cartridges not being recognized, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide.

Verify Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with your HP printer model. Check the printer manual or visit the official HP website to confirm the correct cartridge specifications.

Remove and Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Open the printer cover and carefully remove the cartridges.
  • Check for any protective tape or packaging on the cartridges and remove it.
  • Reinstall the cartridges securely into their respective slots.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Remove the cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  • Reinstall the cartridges.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Wait for a few minutes before reconnecting and turning the printer back on.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the official HP website and check for any available firmware updates for your printer model.
  • If updates are available, follow the instructions to download and install them.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect any USB cables.
  • Remove the cartridges.
  • Unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord.
  • Reinstall the cartridges.
  • Turn on the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
