HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer

Print quality is very poor. Horizontal ink is missing in words and the black in is very light. Replaced ink cartridge and used software to deep clean printer head and realign with no improvement. Is this printer dead or what. I am using apple operating system .

If your HP Envy 7640 All-in-One printer is producing poor print quality with missing ink and light colors, even after replacing the ink cartridges and performing maintenance tasks like deep cleaning and alignment, there could be a few underlying issues. Here’s a structured approach to troubleshooting and potentially resolving the problem:

Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Check Ink Cartridges

Verify Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges you are using are compatible with the HP Envy 7640 and are genuine HP cartridges. Non-genuine or refilled cartridges can cause print quality issues.

Inspect Cartridges for Damage:

  • Check the ink cartridges for any signs of damage or leakage. Replace any damaged cartridges with new ones.

2. Clean the Print Head Manually

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Access the Print Head:

  • Open the printer’s access door to reveal the print head and cartridges.

Clean Print Head Contacts:

  • Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the print head and inside the printer.

Clean the Nozzles:

  • Carefully clean the nozzles on the print head with a soft cloth. Be careful not to damage the print head.

3. Check for Print Head Alignment

Perform Print Head Alignment:

  • Use the printer’s software to run a print head alignment. Sometimes the alignment can affect print quality.
  • Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP Envy 7640 and click Options & Supplies.
  • Go to the Utility tab and click Open Printer Utility. From there, select Align Printhead.

4. Run a Print Quality Diagnostic

  • Print a Diagnostic Page:
    • Many printers allow you to print a diagnostic page or a print quality report. Check your printer’s manual or settings to print this page, which can help identify if specific colors or patterns are missing.

5. Check Printer Settings

Adjust Print Quality Settings:

  • Ensure that the print quality settings in your print driver are set to high quality. In macOS, you can adjust this through the Print dialog when selecting print options.
  • Go to File > Print and select your HP Envy 7640.
  • Click on Show Details to access advanced print settings.
  • Choose the Quality or Print Quality option and set it to Best.
