@letitiam, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code 0x0005fb86 (LIB_MATH) typically indicates a firmware or cartridge communication issue, often seen in HP OfficeJet models like the 3830. Here are some steps you can follow to resolve this issue:
Power Reset the Printer
This helps clear temporary memory and re-establish cartridge communication.
- Turn the printer ON.
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer and turn it ON.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges when prompted.
Check Ink Cartridge Compatibility
Ensure you're using genuine HP cartridges compatible with your printer model. For example, the HP OfficeJet 3830 uses HP 63 cartridges. Which cartridges work with my HP printer? | HP® Support
Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can cause communication errors.
- Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads.
- Enter your printer model (e.g., HP OfficeJet 3830).
- Download and install the latest firmware update.
Clean Cartridge Contacts
If the issue persists:
- Turn off the printer and remove the cartridges.
- Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water.
- Let them dry for a few minutes before reinserting.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
