I purchased an OfficeJet Pro 8210 in December of 2022. I have used it so few times (15 at most) that I had to replace the ink in it for the first time a month ago. I tried to print the other day and it told me that my yellow cartridge was low. I ordered a new yellow cartridge thinking maybe I had replaced all, but that one. When I replaced it with the new one, my printer said that the new one was also empty. It obviously was not empty as it was brand new and I shook the old one to find that it was near full as well. I called customer service to help me figure out the issue and they said that they could not help as they do not service this printer anymore. The representative then said that this is because the printer originally came out in 2016 (which I had zero knowledge of) and is “essentially obsolete.” I dont understand how you could sell a product that you know could become useless at any point and not offer anyone any assistance. I need to talk to someone more in depth about this issue because this is terrible business and really hanging your customers out to dry.

Hi @Teacher141,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are facing an issue with your printer that has an ink cartridge issue.
I am sorry for the inconvenience and the trouble you are going through.
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.
C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I tried every solution you advised and none of them worked. I have updated the firmware, restarted the printer and done a power drain using your exact steps twice, and swapped out the ink once again. What can I do now? It still is not recognizing my yellow cartridge as full and it seems like the levels on my cyan and magenta are also going lower despite me not printing anything with them.

I manage an HP Partner service center and finding a repair technician for these products is near impossible. There are many reasons. Firstly, the cost of labor in many cases for inkjet printers exceeds the replacement cost. Add to that the possible mass consumption of ink should numerous printhead cleaning cycles be required and cost of replacement cartridges. Additionally, there are few if any replacement parts offered and there are no technical manuals available to technicians. As a result, you will find few techs willing to take this on.

So essentially, I am stuck with a broken printer after max of 20 uses because it wont accurately read the level of ink cartridges that I am replacing for the very first time. Moreover, this is because there is seemingly nothing I can do on my end to correct the reading and no one else will take a look at the printer because of the cost and lack of parts. Is that correct?
