I bought some generic ink now my printer is not working.  All of the cartilages are full. What can I do to fix the problem?

Hi @DC1770,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Using generic ink cartridges in an HP printer can sometimes cause compatibility issues, as HP printers are designed to work best with genuine HP ink. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

  1. Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the generic ink cartridges you purchased are compatible with your specific HP printer model. Refer to your printer's manual or visit the HP website to verify cartridge compatibility.

  2. Reinstall Cartridges: Remove the generic ink cartridges from your printer and reinstall them. Make sure they are securely and correctly inserted into the designated slots.

  3. Clean Cartridge Contacts: Clean the electrical contacts on both the ink cartridges and the printer. Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the contacts. Make sure they are dry before reinstalling the cartridges.

  4. Reset Printer: Turn off your HP printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Plug it back in, turn it on, and check if the issue persists. This can sometimes reset the printer's internal memory.

  5. Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and download and install any available firmware updates.

  6. Run Printer Diagnostic Tools: HP often provides diagnostic tools that can help identify and resolve common printing issues. Check the HP website for diagnostic tools related to your printer model.

  7. Use Genuine HP Cartridges: While it may not be the ideal solution, using genuine HP ink cartridges is the best way to ensure compatibility and optimal performance. If possible, consider switching back to genuine HP cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
